Wix Reflection

     1. What did you benefit from creating the website as an e-portfolio?

Creating an e-portfolio has allowed me to express myself and showcase my work in a structured way. It has also helped me improve my digital skills and learn how to organize content effectively. Among several well-known platforms, such as Google Sites, Wix, and WordPress, I chose Wix for several reasons.

First, Wix is a user-friendly website builder, even for beginners with no background in programming. I can easily arrange elements like text, images, and videos exactly where I want them. Besides, although Wix offers a free version, it provides hundreds of templates with various styles, from simple to complex. This has allowed me to create a personalized e-portfolio that suits my needs.

Creating an e-portfolio has helped me develop technical skills, improve my ability to present information, and build a digital space that reflects my work and personality. Wix has been a practical and accessible tool for this process.

     2. To what extent did the e-portfolio creation have an impact on your learning experience?

I had heard about portfolios and e-portfolios before, but this was my first time creating one. It was a unique and fascinating learning experience that made me more engaged in my studies. An e-portfolio enhances the learning process by providing a virtual space where I can reflect on my academic work, assess my progress, and evaluate my activities. Furthermore, it allows me to make meaningful connections between the course content and assignments, helping me better understand and apply what I have learned.

In addition, establishing an e-portfolio has helped me develop essential skills such as critical thinking, organizing, and digital literacy. As I curated and structured my portfolio, I became more aware of my strengths and areas for improvement. Also, the process of selecting and presenting my work encouraged me to take greater ownership of my learning.

     3. To what extent will you use the ideas of e-portfolio or multimodal composing in your teaching?

To be honest, this is a new concept for me, which is why I haven't come up with many ideas yet. However, in the foreseeable future, I would like to integrate e-portfolios and multimodal composing into my teaching, as I believe these approaches can enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

By using e-portfolios, students can track their progress, reflect on their learning, and showcase their achievements in an organized way. This can be particularly useful for tracking language development over time, especially in writing. In my teaching, I will encourage students to use e-portfolios to collect and organize their written assignments, projects, and self-reflections. This will not only help them develop digital literacy but also foster a sense of ownership over their learning.

      4. What challenges did you encounter in the e-portfolio creation process? (e.g., creating comment box, adjusting fonts and styles, color contrast, etc.)?

As a newbie, I encountered several challenges during the e-portfolio creation process. First, I wasn’t familiar with the platform’s features, so I had to spend time figuring out where to find the elements I needed. Second, since I used a pre-made template, I had to remove unnecessary items. However, some items couldn’t be deleted and could only be hidden, which limited my customization options.

Moreover, I struggled with organizing my portfolio in a clear and structured way while maintaining a consistent theme. Adjusting fonts, styles, and color contrast to ensure readability was also challenging. I had to be careful to avoid the mistakes my professor had pointed out earlier, such as inconsistent font sizes, inappropriate colors, distracting backgrounds, and unrelated images. Despite these challenges, the process helped me develop better digital skills and a stronger understanding of design principles.

     5. How did you overcome those difficulties during the e-portfolio creation process?

To overcome the difficulties during the e-portfolio creation process, I would like to first express my gratitude to Professor Sherry and her teaching assistant Jenny for their helpful introduction to Wix’s common features. Their guidance saved me a significant amount of time in familiarizing myself with the platform. When it came to the website's ideas and theme, I spent more time learning from my classmates and exploring current websites. While I anticipate facing more challenges in the future, I am confident that every problem has a solution.
